Unicem appoint new chairman

France-based quarry and construction materials association UNICEM has announced that it has reappointed Denis Maître as its chairman.

French aggregates association Unicem has announced that Lafarge’s quarry in Fercé-sur-Sarthe, France has achieved level four standard in its environmental charter – the highest level possible. The site is the 51st within Lafarge’s French operation to gain this standard.

The Lafarge quarry in Château-Gontier, France, has received the highest environmental classification, Level 4, from the French National Union for the Quarry and Construction Material Industry (Unicem). Lafarge worked to reduce the site's impact on the environment and on biodiversity, and of all its French quarries, the company already has 51 that have received Level 4 classification. Six Lafarge quarries in the French region of Aquitaine (Bourdelles, Brax, Cabanac-et-Villagrains, Fontet, Les Billaux and Saucats) have received recognition for reaching the highest level of environmental standards set out by Unicem, the French quarries and construction materials union.
