The third-biggest cement producer in Thailand, TPI Polene, is to boost the capacity of its waste-to-energy power station in Saraburi from the present 60MW to 120MW with an investment of THB 3 billion (€72.60 million US$92.56 million).

The power station's output caters to the needs of TPI Polene's cement factory.

The additional output will be used starting in the 2015 fourth-quarter, with full capacity operations to take place in the 2016 first half.

The Prime Minister of Morocco has approved the merger of the Moroccan subsidiaries of cement companies Lafarge and Holcim on condition that there be no job cuts and that the merger be in the interest of both management and employees.

The new entity, which aims to become world leader in the cement market, should have 60% of the Moroccan market share, placing it first ahead of Ciments du Maroc (subsidiary of Italian group Italcementi).

Devnya Cement, the Bulgarian subsidiary of Italian cement manufacturer Italcementi, has launched a new production facility.

The operation requested an investment of over €160 million (US$204.87 million), improving the capacity of the plant to 1.5million tonnes/year.

Following the high price of cement produced locally, National Company for Construction and Development (NCCD) of Egypt has decided to construct a cement plant in Egypt. NCCD is now analysing the best timing for the proposed plant.

Breedon Aggregates, the UK’s largest independent aggregates business, has agreed terms with Barr Holdings to acquire Barr Quarries, the market-leader in aggregates in south-west Scotland, for £20.8 million (€26.3 million) in cash.

Barr Quarries employs approximately 130 people and is headquartered near Cumnock, 35 miles (56km) south of Glasgow. It operates 11 quarries, five asphalt plants and six ready-mixed concrete plants extending from Dalry in the north to Stranraer in the south and east to Moffat.
