Swedish construction company NCC is introducing a new Nordic organisation for its business area NCC Roads. Instead of the current country-based organisation, NCC Roads will divide its operations into three divisions: Asphalt, Stone Materials and Road Services.

The new organisation is part of the company's strategy to optimise its customer offering, says Göran Landgren, business area manager for NCC Roads.

Spanish railway infrastructure administrator, Adif, has awarded contracts for the supply and transport of ballast destined for the maintenance of high speed (AVE) railway lines between 2013 and 2014, for €5 million.

The contract was split into various lots, with the total supply coming to 238,000tonnes.

British Precast Concrete Federation has relocated its offices from Charles Street, Leicester, central England, to The Old Rectory, Glenfield, Leicester after 40 years.

The Old Rectory has been carefully selected because of its geographical location as it is conveniently located close to the motorways, enabling British Precast to work for and with its members in an ideal, modern environment.

Holcim has inaugurated a new production site in Schifflange, Luxembourg, the company's first site in the country.

The company invested €6 million at the site, which created 40 direct and indirect jobs. It was designed to minimise the environmental footprint. The concrete production capacity will reach nearly 150,000m³/year.

One or two more sites may be opened in Luxembourg in the future with the second site located in the country's centre.

French pre-fabricated concrete specialist Rector Lesage has inaugurated its R&D laboratory. The 517m2 building was built using Rector Lesage concrete elements including its thermoactive prefab slabs, an element that the group created with KaRoSolar, as radiant ceiling panels.

Rector Lesage has ten patents and commits 12% of turnover to R&D and industrial development each year. The group makes €180 million in turnover with 800 employees across 14 factories (12 in France, one in Poland and one in Belgium).

Increasing economic indications are that the construction sector is picking up and this resurgence in demand has been particularly evident at several of the recent auctions held by Euro Auctions, says the company.
