Cemex's Northern Ireland-based ready-mixed concrete, block and aggregates operations have been taken over by CRH, and the operations have been integrated with CRH's Northstone business. CRH also took over the Dudman group's cement import facilities in the UK.

The second edition of The Aggregates Handbook, published by the National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association (NSSGA), is now available, says the Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration (SME). The organisation says the handbook has been the industry's primary source for aggregates technology and knowledge for more than two decades, and the second edition has been expanded to include developments in sustainability, safety, transportation, design, technology standards and industry trends.

CRH Swiss Distribution, the Swiss subsidiary of the Irish building materials supplier CRH, has appointed a new CEO. Nicolasn Weinmann was previously COO and a member of CRH Swiss Distribution's management team. The company has new headquarters in Berne. Erik de Groot, interim-CEO, will assume the role of organisational development director at CRH Europe Distribution. CRH Swiss Distribution had a CHF 1.50 billion (€1.21 billion) turnover in 2012 and employs around 2,500 people at 120 sites.
