Algeria’s construction material imports fall

Algerian construction material imports have fallen by 29.08% in value to US$252.76 million (€226.38 million) in January-February 2016 compared to the same 2015 period, while they receded by 7.48% in volume to 1.31 million tonnes. Algerian construction material imports have fallen by 29.08% in value to US$252.76 million (€226.38 million) in January-February 2016 compared to the same 2015 period, while they receded by 7.48% in volume to 1.31 million tonnes.

Iron and steel imports have sunk by 50.24% in value to US$93 million and by 32.94% in volume to 244,438tonnes.

Meanwhile cement imports tumbled by 25.86% in value to $48.94 million and by 3.69% in volume to 815,888tonnes.

The import bill for these products decreased because their global rates receded in 2015.

Wood imports cost US$103.12 million, up 5.15%, while volumes increased by 20.85% to 244,063tonnes.

Meanwhile, ceramic product imports soared by 42.12% in value to US$7.67 million and surged by 57.6% in volume to 8,445tonnes.
