Algeria’s 2mn tonne 2016 cement surplus

According to 725 Lafarge Algérie, Algeria will produce a surplus of 2 million tonnes of cement in 2016, thus switching from cement importer to cement exporter.

The country will achieve this performance thanks to a 7 million tonne production increase of the three main cement producers, Lafarge, Gica and a private operator.

Lafarge will increase its gypsum production capacities in Algeria by 50% and open 15 Batistore construction material supermarkets by late 2016, while the Cilas cement plant of Biskra will open. It will produce over 3 million tonnes of cement.
