3607 Astec subsidiary BTi has launched its largest-ever hydraulic hammer with the 5.5tonne BXR150. The company had a prototype of the hammer on display on its stand at 404 ConExpo and the unit is expected to be commercially available soon, following completion of field testing in a California quarry.

According to BTi the hammer has an extra long stroke design which improves the power-to-weight ratio. The hammer is designed for use with carriers in the 55 to 100tonnes operating weight range with a flow range of 300 to 400litres per minute and operating pressure of 140 to 190bar.

In long stroke mode, the hammer has a blow rate of 260 to 425 blows per minute and in short stroke mode, it has a rate of between 340 and 530. The switch between the two is controlled manually by a hydraulically-piloted stroke control.

The hammer features large cross-section upper and lower shock-absorbing isolators to reduce vibration feedback to the carrier.

BTi has also updated its crusher boom attachment range with the launch of the MRH series. According to BTi the demand for boom attachments on crushers is growing as more quarry operators recognise the benefits of being able to clear oversize rock remotely without entering the chamber.

BTi market manager Sharon Johnston said: "Some of our customers are still using TM booms bought 20 years ago and the range has been very popular, so when we came to redesign it we wanted to build on this experience. We used a focus group to identify the areas where we could add improvements.

"Through this we now have more common parts - the old TM boom had three different hydraulic lift cylinders but the new MRH boom uses the same cylinder throughout. We have also added extra lifting points to make the boom more functional and also strengthened the design and redesigned the pedestal base."
