Smiths & Sons (Bletchington) primarily serves the construction industry in and around Oxfordshire and the surrounding counties. Family-owned since its inception, the business is now served by the fourth generation of the Smith family.
Founded at the beginning of the 20th century by Arthur Smith, the great-grandfather of the current family directors, the group has grown from its roots in agricultural contracting and steam haulage, to its present status as a leading supplier of construction materials.
As operators of a major gravel plant, and sizeable limestone quarries, the group offers a wide range of washed sands, gravels and crushed limestone for delivery on its fleet of company-owned tippers. Further products offered include the sale of other aggregates, and the production and sale of natural Cotswold block stone, as well as recycled aggregates. In addition the group provides haulage, muckaway, plant hire and contracting services for site excavations and groundworks, as well as contract crushing.
John Dunne, managing director of Aggregate Processing Solutions, said: “The remit was to supply a state-of-the-art recycled aggregate washing system to promote Smiths & Sons large-scale investment into the washed secondary aggregates market.
“We’ve been able to deliver a modular system, which meets their exact needs.”
Set up in 2004 to provide a bespoke, turnkey solution in the provision of screening-washing and crushing equipment, Aggregate Processing Solutions sells complete systems, as well as contracting and hiring of processing equipment
