Cemex uses 30tonnes tyres/day as alternative fuel

Mexican cement manufacturer Cemex is burning around 30tonnes of used tyres/day as an alternative fuel to fossil fuels. According to the company's latest figures, Cemex replaced 17% of traditional fossil fuels with alternative fuels at its plants in 2012, which represents around 138,000tonnes of urban solid waste, including used tyres.

Irish Cement to use scrap tyres for fuel

In its efforts to invest in alternative source of energy to replace fossil fuels, Irish Cement expects that it will be using used tyres as one of the residual waste materials.

The proposal, which will reduce carbon dioxide emissions, concerns Irish Cement's cement kilns in Limerick, and the cement supplier is getting ready to have its environmental licence reviewed by Irish authorities.
