Bell appoints ECI as Irish distributor

Bell Equipment UK has appointed experienced construction machinery dealer ECI JCB as the company’s distributor for articulated dump trucks (ADTs) in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Sales rise at Romania’s Siceram in 2014

Siceram Sighisoara, a Romanian building material producer, recorded revenues of RON 68 million (€15.25 million/US$17.06 million) in 2014, up by almost 13% on the year. The company’s sales of bricks generates 48% of its total sales, while sales of roofing products generated 38% of its total turnover. In 2015, Siceram targets a 10% rise in sales to almost RON 75 million.

Morocco: Amib criticises special tax on cement

At a meeting organised by the Moroccan concrete industry association Amib, cement companies have criticised the special tax on cement, which accounted for MAD 154 million (€14.27 million/US$15.81 million) in tax revenue in 2014.
Difficulties in the cement segment have seen consumption fall by 6.09% to 13.95 million tonnes in 2014. The tax accounts for 9% of the cost of cement, which itself accounts for 50% of the cost of concrete, with the industry noting that it necessarily has a price impact that is felt

China Shanshui Cement Group to offer 7.5% senior notes worth US$500 million

In order to settle certain indebtedness, China Shanshui Cement Group plans to offer 7.5% senior notes worth US$500 million (€451.29 million) due in 2020. Morgan Stanley, Credit Suisse and BOC International Holdings will be the joint book-runners, joint lead managers and joint global coordinators as well as the first subscribers for the notes. China Shanshui Cement Group, a Chinese clinker, cement and concrete products maker, expects to generate a net proceeds of around $484 million.

Lafarge largest waterway transporter in France

Cement group Lafarge is the largest waterway transporter in France, transporting 4 million tonnes of aggregates, rubble and cement/ year since 2010. The group operates 25 sites directly connected to river network (the Seine, the Rhône and the Meuse), with 95% of its transport activity in the River Seine where it operates 84 barges as well as ten push tugs. In the Rhône valley, its waterway transport is sub-contracted, while the renovated port in Teil is used to supply its production sites in Teil and Cruas.

Laos: SCG builds cement plant in Khammuan with LAK 2.50tn investment

Siam Cement Group (SCG) of Thailand has commenced the construction of a cement plant in Laos' province of Khammuan. The plant is being built in Mahaxay under a land concession agreement of 50 years, and will have an annual output capacity of 1.8 million tonnes and may start operating in 2017. SCG is building the plant with an investment of LAK 2.50 trillion (€278.23 million/US$308.26 million).

FLSmidth to supply equipment to Egyptian cement plant

FLSmidth has received two contracts from the Egyptian cement producer Misr Cement Company (Qena) for supply of equipment for a cement plant which was originally supplied by FLSmidth. The cement plant is 45km from Luxor in Egypt. The equipment to be supplied includes among others an ATOX coal mill; an OK vertical cement mill; Pfister weighing and dosing systems, and MAAG gear reducers and Airtech filters.

Pakistan: cement sector earns net profit of PKR 22bn in second half of 2014

Topline Securities, a stock brokerage company in Pakistan, reported that 14 out of 19 listed cement companies posted 15% year-on-year (y-o-y) growth in net profit to PKR 22 billion (€194.87 million/US$215.90 million) in the six months to 31 December 2014.
