Lafarge has celebrated the opening of a new quarry in Var, France this week. The new installation at the sand and gravel site represents an investment of €30million and replaces an exhausted quarry in the same region. Around 70% of the production is expected to be used by the concrete market with the remainder produced for road construction.

Hope Construction Materials opens first new quarry

Hope Construction Materials, Britain’s leading independent supplier of aggregates and concrete, has announced the opening of its first new, greenfield quarry as part of its UK development plan.

The Black Cat Quarry on the A1 Black Cat roundabout near Roxton in County Bedfordshire, England, will supply more than 100,000tonnes of sand and gravel each year to use in concrete for building and construction across the northern Home Counties.

The new quarry represents a £1.5 million (€1.9 million) investment
