The hauler, a Generation 8 model with a trough capacity with a tailgate of 18.1m³, was put to work hauling sand material loaded by a 35-tonne Liebherr 934 Litronic crawler excavator.
The TA 230 has been available to UK customers since Q1 2021, with several already sold and delivered to quarrying and construction plant hire companies in England and Scotland. Liebherr-Great Britain says continuing healthy UK off-highway equipment market demand will likely lead to strong customer interest in the TA 230 over the remainder of 2021 into 2022.
Powered by a new 265kW Liebherr D956 six-cylinder Stage V engine, the 28-tonne payload TA 230 is ideal for quarry material hauling and overburden transport. The TA 230 generates significant drawbar pull on challenging terrain and gradients thanks to its powerful engine and efficient drivetrain. The hauler’s maximum driving speed is 57kmph (forward) and 16kmph (reverse).
The TA 230’s newly developed operator’s cab features panoramic windows without any struts, in addition to a short and inclined bonnet to guarantee the driver always has an optimal view of the driving, working and articulating area of the machine. A touch display with an integrated rear camera also increases transparency in the back area.
The TA 230 has hydraulic multi-disc brakes on all axles and a zero wear upstream braking system. This comprises an engine brake and a primary hydrodynamic retarder. The continuous operation break is activated automatically as soon as the brake pedal is pressed. It highlights controllability, protects the components, and provides additional safety due to its notable deceleration on gradients.
Simplified maintenance is another standout feature of the TA 230. The hauler’s electro-hydraulic bonnet and integral access ladder with non-slip steps provide safe, clear access to the whole engine compartment. The service points are clearly visible and easy to reach. All maintenance work can be carried out conveniently and safely from a standing area.
Smart machine check-up is another eye-catching standard feature of the TA 230. When the model is started at the beginning of each day, it automatically runs through a series of tests. The levels of the engine and hydraulic oil, coolant and the level of grease in the central lubrication systems are all checked. Liebherr says this increases the reliability of the components and reduces the daily set-up time for the operator. All messages are shown on the display.
