Hanson UK has extended its involvement with EDF Energy’s Hinkley Point C project in county Somerset, south-west England, securing a roads construction contract for the Kier Bam Joint Venture through its contracting division.
The contract includes supplying 40,000tonnes of cement bound granular material (CBGM) and 100,000tonnes of asphalt over the next two years. The materials will be used to build access roads on site.
In addition, the company is supplying the temporary access roads for the Kier Bam JV and other packages for the Bylor JV of Bouygues Travaux Publics and Laing O’Rourke, which is responsible for the construction of the reactor buildings at the site.
Stewart Cameron, Hanson’s Hinkley Point C project lead, said: “We are delighted to have extended our involvement with this high-profile project to construct the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK.
“We are supplying a number of the Tier 1 contractors with products from two of our cement plants, four quarries, three asphalt plants, a marine dredger and a Regen GGBS site.
“Our commitment to quality, customer service and ‘right first time, every time’ is crucial to meeting the exacting safety standards of this large and complex contract.”
