Holcim Belgium, the Belgian division of the Swiss cement manufacturer 680 Holcim, has celebrated its 100th anniversary at its Obourg site.

Holcim Belgium has over 30 sites which generate revenues of €285 million annually and have generated as much as €350 million during record-breaking years. The sites employ around 1,000 people.

According to reports, however, questions over the restructuring of the Obourg site remain. The company is said to have announced plans to continue work at the site, although the existing quarry will be exhausted in 2022.

The reports indicate that around 40% of the work force will be moved to a new quarry and the rest of the work force will be moved to a new factor, moves that are designed to maintain employment at Obourg for 50 years, and represent a €400 million investment.
