JCB has now transferred excavator production in the UK to a new purpose-built £40million (€46million) heavy products factory outside Uttoxeter. The move ends 140 years of production at the old site in the town, which was formerly the home of Bamfords agricultural manufacturing business, but was taken over by JCB in 1989.

JCB has added crushing technology to its portfolio with the launch of its new CB crusher bucket range. The 20m3 per hour CB60, 30m3 per hour CB70 and 40m3 per hour CB90 are designed for use with JCB excavators from the JS160 up to the JS360.

Linatex has launched its new G4 pump, claiming that the product delivers up to 43% power draw savings over conventional alternatives. The company also claims that following in-field testing, sand and gravel operations can achieve major savings in total life cycle costs with the new G4 rubber [lined] and hard metal pumps, which offer "superior abrasion resistance."

A modular mobile jaw crusher is being offered by a new manufacturer to the market. Based in Britain, Crushers UK has designed its track-mounted, single toggle jaw Hercules 1830 machine to be easy to transport and make ready for use. The machine features a crusher opening measuring 800x500mm and can produce stone sizes from 25-100mm, with a maximum throughput of 100tonnes/hour. Unigran is investing in new equipment to meet demand from its Ukrainian Malin granite quarry. Rapidly rising demand for aggregates in the Ukraine has helped double production at Unigran's Malin quarry over the last six years to reach 2million m3 per year. The company is expecting calls for material from the granite quarry to continue rising and is investing in both new equipment and its workforce to meet this.

Aims to increase recycling rates in Europe are being supported by the European Recycled Aggregates Platform. Claire Symes reports on this initiative. Increasing rates of recycling across Europe is a key EU ambition but reaching the target of 70% may be a challenge for some member states. Supporting regulators, quarry producers and customers in achieving this goal is the main task of the European Recycled Aggregates Platform.
