The American Concrete Institute (ACI) has made two amendments to the Georgia Building Code which now require ACI Certification. The decision is intended to ensure proper concrete testing and support safe concrete construction practices.
Under the first new rule, only ACI-certified field technicians can sample and test fresh concrete in the field. The second modification requires ACI strength testing technician certification for individuals breaking cylinders in the lab.
The Georgia Ready Mixed Concrete Association's (GRMCA's) members and technical activities committee advocated for these changes.
Jimmy Cotty, GRMCA executive director, said in an interview given to Concrete Construction: "ACI certification programmes are internationally recognised, and GRMCA felt it was critical to specifically acknowledge them in the code.
"When and I met with our State Codes Advisory Committee, we took the position that demonstrating competency was achieved by passing the relevant ACI certifications. These certifications are industry standard and recognized by all.”
