Alpine Silica will expand its portfolio with the opening of two frac sand plants in Van Horn, Texas and Fay, Oklahoma. The company has secured nearly 51 million tons of reserves for the Oklahoma facility and expects it to produce over three million tons of frac sand per year.
Groundbreaking for the Oklahoma site will take place in the coming months with construction last six months by an affiliated construction group.
In Texas, Alpine Silica believes the plant will produce around three million tons per year. Groundbreaking will begin in the coming months with an estimated construction time of seven months.
The firm's frac sand is used to improve recovery rates of oil and natural gas from hydraulic fracturing wells in major US shale basins.

The company says its plant in Kermit is achieving significant production improvements every month.
