Atlas Sand has opened a frac sand facility in Monahans, Texas, with an expected production capacity of four million tonnes per year. The company says it anticipates the site to reach this production rate within the next six weeks.
Ben M. ‘Bud’ Brigham, founder and chairman of Atlas Sand, says: "With the start-up of Atlas Monahans, we now have facilities making shipments of our premium open dune sand from both ends of the Winkler Sand Trend."
Hunter Wallace, the Company's chief operating officer, says the new plant serves as a ‘twin facility’ to the Atlas Kermit facility and will increase the company-wide production capacity to approximately eight million tonnes per year, or approximately 1,000 truckloads per day.
“Much like what we saw at Atlas Kermit, we expect this facility to ramp to full production capacity very quickly, due to the efficiencies and redundancies that we designed into the plant,” Wallace adds.
The first scheduled deliveries of frac sand were fulfilled on the 30 October 2018.
In August, Atlas Sand announced its plans to unveil the Kermit facility with an anticipated production capacity of four million tonnes per year.
The company says it will announce future expansion plans at Kermit in due course.
