Mexican cement firm Cementos Fortaleza and fibre cement materials producer Plycem, both controlled by the giant Mexican building materials group Elementia, have opened a new cement production plant in Barranca de Puntaneras, Costa Rica.
The new facility represents an investment of more than US $17 million (€14.86 million) and produces cement aimed at the domestic market. Part of its output will also supply Plycem's production plant in Cartago.
According to Jose Lopez, the chief executive officer of Cementos Fortaleza in Central America, the new factory will continue Elementia's traditional focus on quality, innovation and customer needs.
Lopez emphasised that the Barranca de Puntaneras factory has been equipped with German technology and the project has generated more than 200 direct jobs.
