Mexican aggregates and construction materials firm Grupo Elementia has announced that it is investing US $30 million in a new cement plant in Progreso (Yucatan).
Elementia will produce 250,000 tonnes of Cemento Fortaleza cement per year at the new facility and the project will create more than 200 new jobs.
Jaime Rocha, chief executive officer of Cemento Fortaleza, says that he is earmarking a further US $30 million for a second phase expansion of the plant.
The new Progreso facility will spread over seven hectares and it will be equipped with cutting-edge technology, says Rocha.
The CEO added that the raw materials required for the operation of the plant would come in through Progreso port and that exports would be shipped from the same maritime terminal.
Elementia hopes to inaugurate the complex in the first quarter of 2019.
