Cemex has supplied more than 600,000 cubic meters of Rolled Compacted Concrete for the Bicentennial Dam, located in the state of Sonora, in the Northwest of Mexico.
Cemex says the Rolled Compacted Concrete system reduces the areas of displacement, costs and quality control in the finished elements.
The dam has a storage capacity of 484 million cubic meters of water and is expected to control floods that affect the local community during the rainy season. It is also estimated to contribute to the protection of approximately 11,000 homes in urban areas, 6,000 rural homes, 34,000 hectares of crops and 48,615 hectares of infrastructure such as roads and agriculture.
Ricardo Naya, president of Cemex Mexico, says: “During the production peaks, up to 2,000 cubic meters of concrete were placed in a single night, a challenge that meant keeping the operation and auxiliary equipment ready, as well as the logistics coordination of the raw materials for timely delivery.”
