Cemex USA hosted its annual Safety Week for 2018 to demonstrate its commitment to workplace safety and employee health as part of its Zero4Life target. Workers participated in safety stand downs and meetings to help them refocus on carrying out tasks safely.
During the stand downs, employees learned about the life cycle of action-based safety that encourages them to learn, identify and engage. Additionally, employees used personal experiences and those of others to learn about potential safety hazards. The staff also identified potential hazards in their work areas and how to fix them.
Take 5 Hazard Assesment booklets were also provided to encourage a stop, think, and act approach for job sites.
Ignacio Madridejos, president of Cemex USA, said: “Safety is something that is embedded in everything we do at Cemex,” We want to achieve zero recordable injuries, job-related illnesses, preventable vehicle accidents and environmental events—Zero4Life. Safety Week encourages everyone to be involved and take action to make our work environments safer.”
Guillermo Martinez-Sans, Cemex USA’s executive vice president, Human Resources and Communications, said: “Action-Based Safety helps reinforce CEMEX’s Health & Safety Management System, and the LIFE cycle helps build on that. It encourages all our employees to be more proactive and keep an active safety dialogue so we can make sure workers at our facilities go home safe.”
