CEMEX USA has helped Texas recover from Hurricane Harvey by assisting the Houston community and employees with rebuilding efforts, emergency infrastructure repairs and support. The company also supplied approximately 750 yards of high-early strength concrete for a critical stretch of Beltway 8 and allowed commuters to get back on the road.
CEMEX USA facilities only dealt with limited issues, with many operating immediately after the storm. The company prepared plants in advance and activated its Houston emergency hotline and website to keep employees informed. Meanwhile, managers and support staff held daily calls to account for the safety of all employees and their families. CEMEX managers also held safety stand-downs at all facilities as well as additional meetings with employees to learn if they needed assistance. Payroll advances have been made available to employees whose cars or homes had flooded, as well as those forced to evacuate.
A hurricane relief assistance program has been set-up, where the company will match voluntary employee donations to assist employees and communities affected by the hurricane.
Guillermo Martinez, CEMEX USA Executive Vice President – Human Resources and Communications, said, “We here at CEMEX care about our colleagues, and we want them to be safe whether they are at work or with their families. We stand together as one CEMEX, looking out for each other like family.”
Safety inspections were carried out at the facilities before employees returned to work.
