Cemex takes top spots in US quarry rankings

July 6, 2017

Three of Cemex’s quarries are in the top 25 Crushed Stone Operations in the nation, with Balcones Quarry taking the top spot.

Statistics from the US Geological Survey recently released show Cemex’s Balcones Quarry in New Braunfels, Texas, was the number one quarry in the United States for production volume in 2015, and Cemex’s FEC Quarry in Miami ranked fourth.

Balcones Quarry is integral in providing crushed stone for aggregates projects in the growing Texas markets, producing approximately 10-12 million tons of limestone materials per year.

More than 100 employees work at the facility. Cemex recently invested in a water recycling plant at Balcones Quarry that uses 90 percent less water annually than its previous wash plant.

FEC Quarry in Florida supplies crushed stone across Florida for new buildings and critical roads. The quarry is also recognized for its community involvement. Earlier this year, the National Stone Sand and Gravel Association (NSSGA) named FEC Quarry as a Bronze Community Relations Award winner.

“Our quarries are crucial parts of Cemex, and we are proud to set the standard for our industry,” Cemex USA President Ignacio Madridejos said.

“Cemex quarries provide the products our customers need every day to build better communities, and our employees do it while putting safety and sustainability first.”

A third Cemex quarry, Krome Quarry in Florida, was also ranked in the top 25 in the nation by USGS. Cemex has more than 50 quarries in the United States.
