Cemex USA has been recognised by the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Energy Star Challenge for Industry for cutting energy use at two cement terminals in Texas.
Cemex says it slashed its energy intensity by 53% at its DeZavala terminal and by 39% at its Tyler terminal.
The building materials giant decreased energy use by replacing equipment at the terminals with more energy-efficient versions while also switching to LED energy-efficient light bulbs.
Matt Wild, Cemex USA executive vice president logistics, says: “At Cemex, we are committed to sustainability, so we are constantly looking for opportunities where we can save energy and reduce our energy footprint.”
Companies participating in the Energy Star Challenge for Industry must establish their baselines for energy consumption, then put processes in place to conserve and track usage.
