Cemex USA has announced its Clinchfield Cement Plant and Quarry in Clinchfield, Georgia, have earned the National Mining Association's (NMA) Sentinels of Safety Award.
Cemex USA says the NMA's award recognises mining operations for recording the most hours in a calendar year without a single long-time injury (LTI). A minimum of 4,000 hours is required for award consideration.
The Clinchfield Cement Plant and Quarry went all of 2018 without a single LTI, adding up to more than 200,000 work hours, the company adds.
Clinchfield Cement plant manager Alex Guyse says: “Safety is a team effort, and at Clinchfield, our people look out for each other every day. We are working together to continuously improve safety at our operations at the cement plant and quarry as we pursue excellence.”
The NMA’s Sentinels of Safety Award programme was initiated in 1925 by the commerce secretary Herbert Hoover.
