Cemex USA says it is supplying nearly 300,000 tonnes of aggregates for the Carrie Meek Warehouse/ Nebula complex in Opa-Loka to help support growth in south Florida. The near 900,000 square-foot complex will house an online retailer and is expected to open in late 2018.
Through the contract, Cemex is supplying 80,000 tonnes of limerock base, 50,000 tonnes of fill screenings as well as 50,000 tonnes of ASTM 57 and ASTM 4 rock. Additionally, 100,000 tonnes of ASTM crushed concrete will be used to meet the project’s specifications. The company is using aggregates from Cemex’s FEC Quarry along with recycled concrete for part of the pad fill.
FEC procures seven different nominal sizes of aggregates and five different types of manufactured screenings. The quarry’s automated system creates different aggregate blends to meet customer requirements while an automated operation for the loading and ticketing process helps drivers collect aggregates. FEC's link to rail lines allow the product to be shipped across the state.
