The National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA) has recognised three Cemex USA in Florida for outstanding community involvement, with the FEC Quarry in Miami, leading with the coveted 2018 Platinum Award for Excellence in Community Relations. The achievement, according to Kirk Light, Cemex USA's regional president, "demonstrates the FEC team’s tremendous ongoing efforts in South Florida to inform, educate and respond to the community in which they operate.”
NSSGA also presented FEC Quarry with its Two Stars of Excellence Award, a distinction for earning both an Environmental Excellence Gold Award in 2017 and a Community Relations Gold Award this year.
FEC quarry hosts tours of operation, welcoming businesses and civic groups to the operation for lunches and panel discussions to learn about the facility. Local, state and congressional lawmakers are also frequent guests where employees educate them on the value of quarries.
In addition, Cemex's 474 Sand Mine in Clermont, and Davenport Sand Mine in Davenport both earned the 2018 Bronze Awards for Excellence in Community Relations.
Ignacio Madridejos, Cemex USA, president, said: “Cemex strives to be a good neighbor in the communities where we live and operate. We are proud of these honors from the NSSGA and thank our team at FEC Quarry for being leaders in the industry,” said Cemex USA President Ignacio Madridejos. “At Cemex, our people not only provide the materials to build a better future, but they show eagerness to strengthen the bonds within the communities around them.”
