Cemex USA has been awarded the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association’s (NRMCA) 2019 Concrete Cares Award for its commitment to community and environment.
Cemex achieved the award for contributions in community service in collaboration with its logistics and ready-mix divisions, leading programs such as its Safer Roads Together initiative, which promotes increased safety awareness for bicyclists, truck drivers and other road users. The achievement also recognises the efforts at many of Cemex’s ready-mix concrete plants that have earned awards and certifications for their responsible sourcing and conservation efforts.
Ignacio Madridejos, Cemex USA president, says: “We have several initiatives underway at our operations to reduce environmental impact, cut emissions and conserve areas where we operate.”
Additionally, Denise Corrales, Cemex USA’s director of environmental in the eastern region, was awarded the 2019 Joseph E. Carpenter Award by the NRMCA’s safety, environmental & operations committee. The award recognises her outstanding lifetime contributions in the ready-mix concrete industry over a 30-year period. Corrales has served as a long time judge of NRMCA’s Environmental Excellence Award Program and supporting the organisation’s annual Environmental Course.
Kirk Light, Cemex USA’s regional president—Florida and Carolinas region, says: “Denise is a true embodiment of Cemex’s dedication to being a good neighbour and commitment to operating in an environmentally-responsible manner.”
