FLSmidth is supplying an OK Raw Mill to the CalPortland Mojave plant in California. The new mill has been designed to help increase reliability and efficiency at the aggregates and building materials group's site, says FLSmidth.
The mill shares the same gearbox as FLSmidth's OK Cement Mill, which was installed at the plant in 2004.
These shared components will allow CalPortland to streamline maintenance and better manage inventory costs by sharing the one spare FLSmidth MAAG WPU-200 assembly, FLSmidth says.
The OK 48-4 Raw Mill comes with a condition monitoring system and an ECS/ProcessExpert system.
Despite the challenges presented by the coronavirus pandemic, the contract provided an opportunity for both companies to participate in a series of meetings remotely.
Bruce E. Shafer, senior vice president for cement operations at CalPortland, says: “Despite the inherent challenges, the team had the focus to reach a timely resolution and get moving on a critical project.”
Rafael Martinez, vice president at FLSmidth, says: “The contract is good news to a lot of people looking for signs of a recovering economy and new jobs being created.”
CalPortland describes itself as: "The largest building materials company producing cement and construction material products on the west coast of the United States. CalPortland has operations in Alaska, Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada and Arizona as well as in British Columbia and Alberta."
Founded in 1891, the company runs 3 cement plants, 10 cement terminals, 76 ready mix plants, 4 asphalt plants and more than 2500 ready-mix trucks.
