Granite named one of the 2019 world's most ethical companies

March 1, 2019

Granite Construction has been ranked as one of the world’s most ethical companies for the tenth consecutive year by the Ethisphere Institute.

Ethisphere, an organisation which defines corporate ethical standards, recognised Granite as one of four honourees in the construction and building materials industry along with Cementos Progreso, GSI and Owens Corning.

James H. Roberts, Granite president and chief executive officer, says: “We are fortunate at Granite to have extraordinary employees who embrace our core values and nurture the strong ethical core that our founders incorporated into our fabric nearly 100 years ago.”

Timothy Erblich, Ethisphere’s chief executive officer, says: “Today, employees, investors and stakeholders are putting their greatest trust in companies to take leadership on societal issues. Companies like Granite that take the long view with a purpose-based strategy are proven to not only outperform but last.”

In 2019, 128 honourees were recognised across 21 countries and 50 industries. The thirteenth class of honourees illustrates how companies continue to help improve communities, build capable workforces and foster corporate cultures focused on ethics.

Ethisphere carried out the assessment based upon its Ethics Quotient framework, which offers a quantitative way to assess a company’s performance in an objective, consistent and standardised manner. The information collected provides a sampling of core criteria rather than all aspects of corporate governance, risk, sustainability, compliance and ethics.

Scores are generated in five key categories: ethics and compliance program (35%), culture of ethics (20%), corporate citizenship and responsibility (20%), governance (15%) and leadership and reputation (10%). All companies receive scores which provide them insights into how the stack up against other organisations.
