Global cement production increased 4.1% to 3.39 billion tonnes in 2012 according to consulting and analysis company
According to the company's forecasts, global demand for cement is expected to increase 4.9% per year to 2017.
Cement consumption per person is expected to rise to 645kg in 2017. This compares to 448kg in 2009 and 539kg in 2012.
Cement demand is forecast to grow 7.1%/year in the Middle East.
North America is set to witness stronger growth than this, according to CW Group.
Demand in Western Europe, while impacted by the struggling markets of Spain, Portugal and Greece, is expected to witness annual growth of 5.2% to 2017, driven by non-European markets.
African markets are expected to see a 6% rise in demand, while growth in Latin America is forecast to slow to 5.6% due to the slowdown in the Brazilian market.
Moderate growth is forecast for China, while strong growth in Asia, the Philippines and Indonesia is predicted over the coming years.
