British infrastructure on the agenda as MP visits Aggregate Industries’ Eastleigh plant

Royston Smith MP has praised the ‘invaluable contribution’ 1707 Aggregate Industries’ Eastleigh, county Hampshire, England depot has made to the building and maintenance of vital regional infrastructure including roads, schools and hospitals.

Smith, who has been a Conservative MP for Southampton Itchen since 2015, visited the depot in the Tower Industrial Estate to meet with the concrete and aggregate production team and tour the site.

As part of the successful visit, Smith also took part in an engaging roundtable discussion with key Aggregate Industries’ staff such as regional operations manager Ben Greet and site manager Steve Jones to better understand how the operational side of building materials industry works.

In addition, a range of important issues were also discussed including the intelligent management of the aggregate supply system and its rising importance in the construction and upkeep of the national infrastructure network of roads, schools, hospitals.

Ben Greet, regional operations manager for concrete at Aggregate Industries, said: “We were delighted that Mr Smith was able to join us at our Eastleigh site and see first-hand how the aggregates and concrete we supply has helped to build and maintain much of region’s vital infrastructure including roads, schools and hospitals.

“Crucial to the success of these projects is investing in intelligent management systems to help us innovate in this area. As one of the topics discuss during our roundtable, Mr Smith understood the importance of having a comprehensive policy for managing the supply of aggregate locally and nationally.”
