Member of Parliament (MP) Rachel Maclean has praised 1707 Aggregate Industries’ learning and development programme for staff during a recent visit to the firm’s Express Asphalt plant in Redditch, Worcestershire, central west England.

The successful visit involved an engaging discussion between the Redditch MP and Aggregate Industries’ area manager, Ian Dallas, on the company’s investment in staff training through its world-class management and leadership programmes. For instance, to support Dallas in his career development, the leading construction materials supplier is currently sponsoring him to complete an MSc in Leadership and Management.

Maclean and Dallas also discussed early intervention schemes Aggregate Industries has introduced giving staff access to physio to promote early recovery from debilitating conditions, as well as the extensive investment 8161 LafargeHolcim, Aggregate Industries’ parent company, is making in the community as part of its long term commitment to the UK.

Maclean, who was elected as the MP for Redditch in last year’s general election, also took an exclusive tour of the facility at the Lakeside Industrial Estate to learn more about the company’s pioneering Express Asphalt service – designed to make asphalt supply quicker and easier than ever before.

The Express Asphalt offering includes a ‘click and collect’ service with a guaranteed turnaround of 30 minutes for single loads of standard products, and essentially enables busy customers to order asphalt, or tools and equipment, and pick it up from any one of the business’ 41 Express Asphalt depots nationwide.

Ian Dallas, area manager and national programme lead at Aggregate Industries, said: “The visit was a fantastic opportunity for us to show Mrs Maclean how the pioneering Express Asphalt business at our Redditch plant is delivering a quick and efficient service to utility, local authority and groundwork contractors in the region.

“Mrs Maclean also saw first-hand how Aggregate Industries is leading the way in staff development through investment in a number of world-class leadership programmes, which as a beneficiary has been invaluable to my current role and further progression in the industry.”

Maclean added: “I’d like to say thank you to Aggregate Industries for inviting me to visit its Redditch Express Asphalt site. During the visit I was particularly interested to learn about the fantastic things the company is doing to support its staff through learning and development, which is vital to helping the local workforce forge a successful career in construction.”
