A UK MP has been finding out how an
Bristol West MP Thangam Debbonaire took an exclusive tour of the facility at St Phillips in Bristol, UK to understand how through recycling asphalt and its component parts, the site is helping the meet the government’s ambitious targets to halve greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the construction sector by 2025.
Debbonaire also learnt more about the company’s Express Asphalt service. Designed to make the process of asphalt supply much simpler and quicker, the Express Asphalt offering includes a ‘click and collect’ service with a guaranteed turnaround of 30 minutes for single loads of standard products. Aggregates Industries says the service enables busy customers to order asphalt, or tools and equipment, and pick it up from any one of the business’ 41 Express Asphalt depots nationwide.
The Labour MP also saw how the Bristol plant, one of three specialist mixing plants across the UK, produces Aggregate Industries’ SuperColour, a range of distinctly coloured asphalts used for colour demarcation of bus lanes, cycle lanes, sports landscaping and parks and natural areas.
Andrew Newell, area manager at Aggregate Industries, said: “Today’s visit was a fantastic opportunity for us to show Mrs Debbonaire how the pioneering Express Asphalt business at our Bristol plant is delivering a quick and efficient service to utility, local authority and groundwork contractors within Bristol and surrounding areas."
Debbonaire added: “During the visit I was particularly interested to learn how a robust recycling strategy is essential for cutting carbon emissions from the construction materials sector, both on a national and local level.”
