Thomas Concrete Group's brand-new plant in Heby, north of Stockholm, Sweden, has opened.
In two working shifts it can produce pre-cast, reinforced double-walls and slabs in volumes sufficient to build approximately 4,000 new apartments/year in the Stockholm area, where there is a severe housing shortage. “The new Heby plant will enable us to meet the needs of the market and help solve housing shortages," says Hans Karlander, CEO of Thomas Concrete Group.

In a move that will strengthen its sales and service network in Italy, DEUTZ has acquired its long-standing Italian dealer IML Motori, based in Lomagna near Milan. The subsidiary IML Service and the Romanian sales and service company IML Motoare also form part of the acquisition. Through the takeover, DEUTZ is looking to drive growth in its profitable service business and increase its proximity to customers in the Mediterranean.

Weir Minerals Europe is expanding its operations in Poland, with the opening of a new facility in Leszno. The centre is three times the size of the existing facility and incorporates increased office space, a specialist training area and two overhead cranes – one 20 metres high. Both cranes enable Weir Minerals’ engineers to work safely on the largest and heaviest products in the range, such as the 12tonne Trio TP 260 cone crusher.

Another Volvo L220H loading shovel has been delivered to Collier Quarrying & Recycling, a division of the Collier Group, Cowdenbeath, Fife, Scotland. It takes up rehandling duties at the company’s Goat Hill Quarry along with two L220Hs that were delivered at the end of 2014. The new recruit from SMT GB joins the team of Volvo frontline shovels now totalling three, and has allowed a veteran L150C to semi-retire for use on secondary and standby duties as production at the Goat Hill facility steps up.

Cemex will supply 320,000m³ of concrete for the terminal building of Mexico City’s New International Airport. Cemex previously announced the supply of approximately 845,000m³ of concrete, which together with the quantity that the company has already supplied to this large-scale project. would amount to 1.2 million m³ of concrete. The terminal building will be X shaped and comprise a surface area of approximately 734,000m² distributed on four levels, as well as 95 fixed contact doors and 68 remote doors.
