The cement industry in Vietnam is projected to report a yearly output capacity of 81.56million tonnes across 76 production lines by end-2015, disclosed the Ministry of Construction.

Vishal Devan has been appointed as the general manager of supply chain at cement manufacturer Lafarge South Africa.

This is a newly-created role at the company, following its decision to implement a more integrated procurement model.

Following the completion of works on a new RWF 126.70 billion (€157.97 million/US$175.81 million) facility, Rwandan cement maker Cimerwa is targeting the regional export market.
The plant will boost the capacity of Cimerwa, Rwanda’s only cement maker, by 500,000tonnes, from its current 100,000tonnes to 600,000tonnes/year. The local market needs 450,000 tonnes, hence the balance of 150,000 tonnes is expected to be export to the DR Congo and Burundi.

A new road is being created in Sluiskil, the Netherlands, for the port authority Zeeland Seaports.

The road uses sustainable tarmac that contains bitumen and lignin in a 50/50 concentration.

The tarmac is to reduce noise pollution and is said to have a lower resistance.

Block Tech of the UAE, a subsidiary of Tech Group, hopes to increase its production base by almost a million units/month with the launch of its third concrete manufacturing plant, which cost AED 60 million (€14.85 million/US$16.34 million).

Research from the Luleå University of Technology (LTU) in Sweden shows that fibre-reinforced polymer can be used to reinforce concrete structures instead of the typical steel.

Gabriel Sas, assistant lecturer at LTU, says that researchers have so far managed to restore full load-carrying capacity to walls without doors.

The project will continue to optimise the pattern of the polymer, which is expected to further improve the results, according to Sas.

Domestic cement sales by South African companies totalled 2.87 million tonnes in the first quarter of 2015, according to data by cement maker PPC.
