In 2013, Eurocement-Ukraine, a unit of Russia's Eurocement Group, produced 1.41 million tonnes of cement worth UAH 959.27 million (€59.57 million), down 6.9% and 11.1% on 2012, respectively. Sales amounted to 1.44 million tonnes (-3.2%) or UAH 982.58 million (-12.7%). Its products were sold on the domestic market, no exports were made.

According to All Pakistan Marble Mining Processing Industry and Exporters Association chairman Sanaullah Khan, marble exports totalled US$70 million (€51 million) from July 2013 to April 2014, a 45% year-on-year increase.

China accounted for half of this amount, primarily semi-finished products, while other major importers include the USA, Europe, Middle East, Japan and South-east Asia.

Over 90% of the exported marble originated from Balochistan province and the nearby city of Karachi.

The Kwanza Sul Cement Plant (FCKS) costing around US$600 million (€432.5 million) in Angola has started operation and it will have daily cement capacity of 4,500tonnes and clinker output of 4,200tonnes/day.

Lafarge Cement Zambia is reported to be planning to double its cement production capacity in Zambia by 2017. Construction of a new production line is expected to start next year.

Lafarge’s CEO, Emmanuel Rigaux said that the company would be adding another production line to its Chilanga operation, doubling daily product output to between 4,000-5,000tonnes/day.

CEMEX has announced that Lorenzo H. Zambrano, chairman of the board of directors and chief executive officer of CEMEX, has died aged 70 in the city of Madrid, Spain.

He joined CEMEX in 1968 and held several positions in the company prior to his appointment as director of operations in 1981. A member of CEMEX’s board of directors since 1979, in 1985 he was appointed as CEO and in 1995 he was elected chairman of the board of directors.

At the Saint-Pierre-la-Cour site of French cement group Lafarge, everything is done locally from raw materials to employment and sales, according to site director Gilles Benvenist.

The site, which is the largest of Lafarge's nine in France and produces 1.6 million tonnes of cement/year, benefits from the presence of iron, alumina, limestone and silica at the nearby quarry.

The cement produced at the site is sold to large building and public works companies in the west of France.

Cemex Latam Holdings (CLH) is to invest US$55 million (€39.64 million) to develop a cement plant in Ciudad Sandino, Nicaragua, that will raise its cement production capacity in the country by 104%, reaching 860,000 tonnes in 2017.
