Laos cement producers could boost output due to high demand

Cement producers in Laos are looking to strengthen their competitiveness and boost their output due to the huge demand for cement products prior to the creation of the Asean (Association of South East Asian Nations) Economy Community in 2015. Cement producers in Laos are looking to strengthen their competitiveness and boost their output due to the huge demand for cement products prior to the creation of the Asean (Association of South East Asian Nations) Economy Community in 2015. At present, cement plants in Vientiane, the landlocked country’s capital, are able to produce 450,000tonnes/year, while total output capacity of cement plants nationwide is around 1.7mn tonnes/year. However, domestic cement demand for 2014 is expected to total 2.8 million tonnes, which may grow by between 5% and 10% in the next 10 years.
