Spain’s demand for aggregates down by 1.8% in 2014

In 2014, demand of aggregates in Spain decreased by 1.8% on the previous year and reached an all-time low of 90.1 million tonnes. Since 2006, demand for aggregates in Spain decreased by 81.4%. The Spanish association Anefa said that 2014 was a flat year for the industry, but in 2015 the association expects for demand of aggregates to rise by 5% to 100 million tonnes. In 2014, demand of aggregates in Spain decreased by 1.8% on the previous year and reached an all-time low of 90.1 million tonnes.

Since 2006, demand for aggregates in Spain decreased by 81.4%.

The Spanish association 4659 Anefa said that 2014 was a flat year for the industry, but in 2015 the association expects for demand of aggregates to rise by 5% to 100 million tonnes.

In terms of business volume, the sector ended 2014 with a total of €410 million, after a 85% cumulative drop since 2007.

At the same time, the association pointed out that the number of jobs lost in the industry totalled 7,250 since the beginning of the economic crisis.

Regionally, demand for aggregates in 2014 only grew in the Balearic Islands (+12.8%); Madrid and Extremadura (+6.6%), and La Rioja (+6.5%).

In Valencia demand decreased by -9.85% and in the Canary Islands by -8.40%.
