Access Engineering of Sri Lanka has won a contract from 6846 Ultratech Cement Lanka to modify Ultratech’s present cement conveying/unloading system.
Work includes building ground floor structures and a basement, and a 50m-tall steel superstructure that weighs 280tonnes.
The ground floor structure is 6m higher than ground level, while the basement sits 5.25m underground.
The port cement ship handling period will be cut substantially as the cement pumping efficiency will be improved by 30% when the project is completed.
Consumption of power will also be reduced from the initial 800kW to 200kW. Besides that, the modification will also minimise dust and noise generation at the location.
