Cement manufacturing in Pakistan is running at 95% capacity utilisation as of March 2016 due to strong import growth, says Muhammad Ali Tabba, chairman of the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA).

Cement makers have been increasing capacity regularly, with an additional 26,000tonnes/day to become available once 8008 DG Khan Cement, 7958 Lucky Cement, Cherat Cement Company, and Attock Cement complete their expansions.

Other major producers are also undertaking expansion projects.

Tabba is reported as rejecting claims by some parties that cement makers are deliberately keeping production down and forming a cartel to raise prices, pointing the high capacity utilisation and saying the industry manages neither cement despatches nor prices.
