Galician granite exports to Saudi Arabia up 127% in 2011

Granite exports from the Galicia region of Spain to Saudi Arabia increased 127% in 2011 to 450tonnes, according to the granite cluster in the region. The impressive figure has already been beaten in the first nine months of 2012, with exports of 514tonnes. Granite exports from the Galicia region of Spain to Saudi Arabia increased 127% in 2011 to 450tonnes, according to the granite cluster in the region.

The impressive figure has already been beaten in the first nine months of 2012, with exports of 514tonnes. The figures were revealed during a visit by a delegation of construction companies from Saudi Arabia and Egypt, including 7031 Saudi Binladin Group and 7032 Al Latifia.

Construction expenditure in Saudi Arabia is growing at a rate of 7.3% up to 2016, providing an opportune market for natural stone firms in Spain. Egypt is also said to present interesting opportunities, as do other Arab markets. Turkey and Morocco currently take the biggest volume of exported granite from Galicia.
