Lafarge Espana mill to cease cement production

Lafarge Espana says its Cementos Esfera mill in Tarragona, Spain will stop producing cement and become a distribution centre. The move, which will lead to five job losses, is said to have been made due to a 75% fall in cement consumption in Spain since 2007, a rise in energy costs and the negative outlook for 2013 – set to see a 20% decrease in Spanish cement consumption compared to 2012. 725 Lafarge Espana says its Cementos Esfera mill in Tarragona, Spain will stop producing cement and become a distribution centre. The move, which will lead to five job losses, is said to have been made due to a 75% fall in cement consumption in Spain since 2007, a rise in energy costs and the negative outlook for 2013 – set to see a 20% decrease in Spanish cement consumption compared to 2012. Lafarge Espana says the Cementos Esfera mill will resume cement production once demand has picked up and costs have dropped.
