The World Cement Association (WCA) has endorsed global government efforts to advance low-carbon cement and concrete production, announced at the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai.

For the first time, a deal has been made at COP – the UN climate summit, which agrees to countries moving away from the use of fossil fuels. The agreement was reached after days of negotiations in Dubai. The text recognises the need for deep, rapid and sustained reductions if humanity is to limit temperature rises to 1.5C above pre-industrial levels.

The Global Cement & Concrete Association (GCCA) has launched the third programme in its Innovandi brand, the Innovandi Entrepreneur Network. The network brings together start-ups that are developing technologies relevant to decarbonisation across the cement and concrete value chain and enables them to network with GCCA members.

Following increased demand for its more sustainable product lines, Cemex says it has seen sales of its cement, which provides the greatest reduction in CO2 emissions, now accounting for more than 20% of sales volumes across Europe.
