Cement production was also down for the period compared to the previous year at 5.3million tonnes, while clinker production was 10.7% lower than in 2009. Nonetheless, imports and exports of cement and clinker were both up by around 11%.

Algeria’s construction material imports down

Algerian construction material imports have receded by 27.4% in value to US$1.9 billion (€1.77 billion) and by 4.8% in volume to 8.39 million tonnes in the first three-quarters of 2015 compared to the same 2014 period, thus suggesting that the decrease is more due to a fall in prices rather than a genuine drop in imports.

Cement imports have fallen by 21.41% in value to $352.32 million, while they have only dipped by 2.11% in volume to 4.8 million tonnes.

Morocco’s cement demand down 5.4% in 2014

Cement demand in Morocco in 2014 went down 5.4% to 14.1 million tonnes representing the same level of consumption for the country as in 2008.

This is the third consecutive year that the cement market has seen a decline.

Pakistan dispatches 3.15mn tonnes of cement in September

In Pakistan, a total of 3.15 million tonnes of cement were dispatched in September 2014, an increase by 7.08% from 2.94 million tonnes in the the same month in 2013.

During the month 2.42 million tonnes of cement were dispatched to domestic markets, a 13.86% growth from 2.12 million tonnes in September 2013.

Exports dropped 10.6% year-over-year from 816,000tonnes to 730,000tonnes in the month under review.
