Sandvik Mobiles’ Heavy Range secures high productivity for top Nigerian construction firm’s granite quarry processing
Specialising in infrastructure, highway and bridge projects, one of Nigeria-based Rockbridge Construction’s most recent assignments required heavy- duty machinery to process material from a granite quarry. The machinery also needed to produce a wide range of product sizes, and having previously made investments in
The UJ440i heavy-duty jaw crusher has proved to be the ideal piece of equipment for Rockbridge as it features the Sandvik CJ412 jaw and possesses a feed opening of 1200 x 830mm. This allows a broad range of hydraulically adjustable CSS (Closed Side Settings) of between 100 to 275mm. Additionally the UJ440i may be fitted with a wide choice of different jaw plates, making it an ideal solution for a wide range of different applications.
Further maximising its productivity, the UJ440i includes a wealth of onboard equipment. This includes a heavy-duty and abrasion resistant hopper which can handle heavy feed material with ease. The vibrating grizzly feeder (available on the comfort and classic models), or pan feeder and live prescreen (available on the trend models) can then process the material to be fed to the high performing jaw crusher. The main conveyor has a superior discharge height compared to similar models for excellent stockpiling capability, and features a heavy-duty wide conveyor belt designed to handle high volumes of the toughest and most abrasive material.
Rockbridge Construction’s new UH440i heavy-duty cone crusher is equipped with the claimed market leading Sandvik CH440 Hydrocone crusher, with a 215mm maximum feed size. To ensure optimum productivity there is a choice of mantles and settings, which makes it suitable for a wide range of applications worldwide. The Hydrocone is said by Sandvik to be one of the world’s most technologically advanced cone crushers. It is hydraulically adjustable and controlled for ultimate flexibility, and has been designed to be maintenance friendly as it can be serviced entirely from above, thereby reducing operational downtime.
The CH440 cone possesses a deeper crushing chamber than other comparable machines so it is able to make light work of tough material like granite. Trouble-free and optimal production is ensured by onboard high level intelligence through the ASRi system fitted as standard for controlling the cone. The operator is able to utilise ASRi for quick and easy adjustment of the CSS whilst the cone is in operation. The whole cone and shaft assembly raises and lowers when changing the gap setting. Both the jaw and cone units come fitted with a highly efficient
Sandvik’s QA451 triple deck Doublescreen is working alongside Rockbridge’s new jaw and cone crusher models, and is said to be an ideal screening solution for heavy crusher range work due to its large screening area. The QA451 is designed to provide maximum productivity and massive stockpiling capabilities. It includes a fourth stockpiling conveyor which features both hydraulic raise/ lower and hydraulic slew function to optimise the feed position when working in a train.
With the Sandvik train in operation Rockbridge is able to produce a wide variety of product sizes: 0-10mm, 10-16mm, 16-22mm and 0-50mm. The train demonstrates the flexibility and high production capacity of the Sandvik Construction Mobiles’ heavy machinery, and its ability to operate on tough material to produce a mixture of fines and larger sized material, with current production being an impressive 170tonnes/hour.
Daher Kawerma, Rockbridge Construction operations manager, said: “The [Sandvik] heavy range machinery is extremely reliable which is very important to us in keeping our operation going. The machines on this project have performed superbly and we are pleased with the inclusion of Volvo engines as they have excellent fuel economy, helping to reduce our operating costs. We are also impressed with the local support from Sandvik.”
In addition to its mobile crushing and screening equipment Rockbridge Construction also owns a range of other Sandvik Construction equipment. This comprises of the CJ412, CS430 and CH440 crushers as well as DX700 drill rigs.
