Cemex expects to deliver over 290,000 cubic metres of concrete to help expand and optimise the El Salitre Wastewater Treatment Plant in Colombia.
The concrete is intended to decontaminate the Bogotá River, the main river in the Andean Colombian savannah.
Under the agreement, Cemex has provided building materials for the construction of the plant’s piles, slabs, tank walls and piled walls since October 2017. The facility’s tanks are built with low and very low permeability concretes and have 40cm thick walls with a 7cm coating to help offer protection against aggressive environments.
The plant expansion is estimated to facilitate the daily treatment of approximately 605m litres of wastewater coming from north and central Bogota. Once complete, the upgraded plant is expected to supply purified water to over 2.7m people in Bogota for agricultural and farming activities.
