A concrete truck overturned and lost its load on Laurel Road, says Delaware State Police. According to report by Delawareonline: "Police said the crash occurred a little after 6 a.m., when the driver, a 29-year-old Delmar man traveling west on Laurel Road just east of Saunders Road, tried to negotiate a turn and lost control."
The truck crossed the centre line and went into a ditch and then overturned onto the south side of the road before sliding into an electric cooperative utility pole, the police adds.
Emergency services transported the driver to the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He was cited for careless driving.
According to the police, the barrell separating from the cement truck resulted in a large indentation on the south edge of the roadway. The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDoT) arrived to repair the damaged road which had collapsed into the ditch.
Meanwhile, Delaware Electric Co-op disconnected the power lines from the damaged utility pole and are replacing it.
The report says The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control also arrived at the scene following concrete which had spilled in the ditch.
"DelDOT advised there were no significant environmental hazards due to the spilled cement", the police conclude.
