In its efforts to invest in alternative source of energy to replace fossil fuels, Irish Cement expects that it will be using used tyres as one of the residual waste materials.

The proposal, which will reduce carbon dioxide emissions, concerns Irish Cement's cement kilns in Limerick, and the cement supplier is getting ready to have its environmental licence reviewed by Irish authorities.

At the same time, the company will be applying for a planning permit from Limerick County Council.

Access Engineering of Sri Lanka has won a contract from Ultratech Cement Lanka to modify Ultratech’s present cement conveying/unloading system.

Breedon Aggregates and Whitemountain have been jointly awarded a contract valued at up to £55 million (€74 million) to supply and lay asphalt on the £745 million (€1 billion) Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route/Balmedie–Tipperty project (AWPR/B-T) in Scotland.

Iran's annual cement production is likely to fall by around 12% compared to fiscal year 2014/2015, according to the secretary of Iran's Cement Industry Employers Association. The country produced more than 61 million tonnes of cement in 2014/2015. However, between 21 March and 21 November 2015 the country's cement production dropped by 10% to 12%. Of the 97 cement kilns at 71 cement plants in Iran, around 30 to 35 are reportedly not working due to technical problems and gas shortage.
